Your Master Data, easily managed with Excel

Workbook Connect turns Excel into a powerful interface for your Master Data. Browse, edit, and publish tables directly from the spreadsheet your team already knows.

STEP 1

Install the add-in & connect

Run the guided Windows installer — a signed .exe, with an MSI available for enterprise deployment. Workbook Connect appears as a tab in the Excel ribbon. Enter your server, pick a database, and sign in with Entra ID MFA, Service Principal, Managed Identity, Windows Integrated, or SQL authentication.

STEP 2

Configure a table

Set foreign-key lookups, filters, primary-key mapping, and column visibility once. Click Save Configuration and every team member receives the settings automatically on connect.

STEP 3

Edit live, commit in one shot

Edit cells, add rows, or flag deletions directly in your spreadsheet. A per-row status column tracks every change. Hit Commit and Workbook Connect validates and writes everything back to the database at once.

Bring in your team (Pro)

As your team grows, Pro adds Manage Access to assign and manage Configurator and User roles, plus the Validation Designer to author your own rules. Existing roles and validation rules are always enforced for everyone — even on the free plan.

TRUST & SECURITY

Enterprise-ready by design

  • Encrypted connections

Every connection to your database is secured with TLS 1.2.

  • No schema changes

Workbook Connect works against your existing tables and never alters your schema server-side.

  • Optimistic concurrency

Conflicting edits are detected on commit, so two people never silently overwrite each other.

  • Role-based access

Access is scoped per database and honours the roles and permissions you already defined.

What our users think

From data engineers to business analysts, teams across industries rely on Workbook Connect to keep their master data accurate, up to date, and easy to manage, straight from Excel.

"We used to write one-off scripts every time the business wanted to update reference data. With Workbook Connect they edit it themselves in Excel, and everything stays in sync with the database. It freed up an enormous amount of my time."
Benoit ZwartjesData Engineer
"Excel is where I already live, so being able to query a table, change a few values, and push it straight back to the database feels almost too easy. Honestly, I don't know how we worked without it."

Just Excel on Windows 10 or later. Workbook Connect installs as an Excel add-in through a guided Windows installer (a signed .exe, with an MSI also available for enterprise deployment). It also relies on two standard Microsoft components, the .NET Framework and the VSTO Runtime, which modern Office installations already include; the installer checks for them and links you to a free download if anything is missing. Once installed it appears as a tab in the Excel ribbon and connects directly to your database.

You connect with whichever method your organisation already uses: Microsoft Entra ID with interactive MFA, Entra ID username and password, Service Principal, Managed Identity, Windows Integrated, or SQL authentication. Service Principal and Managed Identity make automated and enterprise scenarios painless. Connections are encrypted with TLS 1.2, Workbook Connect makes no server-side schema changes, and every action honours the permissions and roles already defined in your database — users only see and change what they are allowed to.
